I Love PA Interview

By Interviewer at 05/23/07 15:11
Pennsylvania local I Love PA Interview
Name of your website?

I Love PA

Your name?

Dominic

Your Location (city, etc)

Whitehall

When did you start your website and why?

I started my website late December of 06 and published it early January of 07. While searching the net for Pennsylvania related information I found it difficult to find what I needed and even more difficult to find it all in one place. I love my state and thought it would be a great idea to add as many Pennsylvania related topics and resources in one place as I could. Thus making it easy for others to see what took me so long to find.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

What I find most difficult is organizing the content in a user friendly layout. Also, finding the time to publish everything Pennsylvania has to offer it's citizens.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

I find staying interested and motivated the easy part. I love to share what I discover and maybe helping someone along the way.

What was your biggest mistake?

My biggest mistake was publishing the site in a hurry. I've recently relaunched in a layout I like a lot more. I wish I would of taken my time to begin with and saved myself a lot of trouble.

Who maintains your website and why?

I maintain my website. Only because I know that in my hands quality will never suffer.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

I don't own a business or expect to make large profits from my website. The goal is sharing. I've added google ads in the hopes of paying my monthly hosting fees, but that's about all I expect.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

Ecommerce is indeed the future. Retailer reports prove this year after year. More and more shopping is done online and it seems this trend will continue. If only I had the knowledge I do now a decade ago.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Most of my visitors come from search engines. I really need to take the time to make my website more search engine friendly.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

They've definitely helped. 75% of my visitors have come from google, msn and yahoo search engines.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I haven't really promoted my website. I find it hard to find the time to publish content, let alone promote my website.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

I guess not promoting my website has been my least successful way of promoting it, haha!

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

I guess I would like to see the access to the internet change. In my opinion broadband access is too expensive. I look forward to the days of a high speed connection for $9.99 a month.

Collin County Station Interview

By Interviewer at 05/22/07 16:26
Texas local Collin County Station Interview
Name of your website?

Collin County Station

Your name?

Frank

Your Location (city, etc)

Collin County

When did you start your website and why?

I started Collin County Station several years ago as a "quick links" page for my personal use. About the middle of last year, I realized that I had quite a collection of links to Collin County Texas and that this might be useful to others. From my own experience, I find that searching the web often yields results that have little relationship to what was really being searched for.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

We provide text links for businesses, organizations and other Collin county related web sites. These are categorized by city and other means. The main page provides some history and information about Collin county, Texas. Text links in our city pages re free. Our intent is to provide a site where visitors can find links to anything in Collin County they might need in one easy to find place.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

Finding links to businesses, organizations and other such web sites to place on Collin County Station has been, to say the least, a challenge. Searches for topics seldom yield the results desired. As example: A search for the term Collin County Texas will yield results for Dallas County and other counties along with a few sites related to Collin County.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

Uploading changes to the server. :)

What was your biggest mistake?

Not thinking the thing through enough ... or thinking too much about what I want to do. Sometimes one can think too much and make worse mistakes than just following a "gut" reaction.

Who maintains your website and why?

Collin County Station is maintained by three people. Me, Myself, and I. There are times that I think that I have too much help and considerations are made for layoffs, but then I also find that sometimes I wish I could hire some more help. :)

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

It gives me something to do and keeps me off the streets. Of course, at my age, I probably wouldn't be on the streets anyway. :)

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I'd like to think that the internet is finally moving away from all the hype and getting back to providing networking for people, but that's probably just a dream.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

maddening! :D

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

As long as search engines keep providing everything that the searcher doesn't want, they help my site considerably.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I'm the last person you want to ask this. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

See previous answer. ;)

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

Don't really know. Too much to list and my view of perfection is a bit warped.

What is your website address?

Collin County Station

Cheyenne Business Directory Interview

By Interviewer at 05/22/07 14:03
Name of your website?

Cheyenne Business Directory

Your name?

Pam Smith

Your Location (city, etc)

Cheyenne

When did you start your website and why?

I started this website in March of 2007 and I started it for 2 reasons. The first reason I started this website is because I wanted my own home-based business and I thought it would be fairly easy, uncomplicated and successful. The other reason was because I was tired of putting in local online searches for Cheyenne and getting bombarded with information about businesses that are not even close to Wyoming or related to what I was even searching for.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

My Website is an online business directory for Cheyenne, Wyoming. It was created primarily for "brick and mortar" businesses, whether they had a website or not.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

The most difficult part of running the website is submitting url's and links.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

Posting the listings.

What was your biggest mistake?

I am beginning to wonder if I "localized" too much.

Who maintains your website and why?

I maintain the website because I am basically a "one person" operation.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

My business is my website and I think it's too early to tell if it is benefitting me finacially.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

I don't even know what this is. If it is what I think it is (paying some company to get you better rankings or links) I don't think much of it.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I believe it's too early to tell.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Trying to promote it to the very people who could benefit from it the most, business owners.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

This may relate more to the question on my views on Search Engines, but here goes. I know that I have only had my website for a couple of months and other sites have been on the web for years. They have paid their dues, so to speak. They have earned (or bought) their page ranking. But when I put Cheyenne Business Directory in a search and websites that "may" have a word or two in that search come up before mine, I find it very frustrating. I've gone back 33 pages on Google and websites without those words come up before mine. So, in effect what I am saying is, that is what I would like to see change. There needs to be more "relevance consideration" in the search engines process of searching.

Comments:

What do I know? I am just trying to make a living by selling a good service at a reasonable price, at least for my area.
