Oy. I hope some of you did more research before getting one. How mean a pit gets depends on a few things. Genetics, ownership, environment and early socialization. Pits do "not" make good guard dogs no matter how well you train them. Reason being if something happens you will most likely be forced to put your dog down. Pits will gladly attack if you want them to but once they grab ahold it is very difficult for them to let go. Not because of "lock jaw" that doesnt exist but because of years of creating the breed to not want to let go even after the prey is dead. It is highly discouraged. Pits are people lovers but need extra care with other animals. The only way to ensure a happy life with your pit is to encourage proper behavior & prevent situations that will harm your precious angel.
