Illinois concrete Swederski Concrete Construction Interview
Name of your website? (NOT url, http://etc)

http://www.swederski.com/

Your name?

Mike Marsh

Your Location (city, etc)

SCCI is located 60 miles NW of Chicago & 50 miles SW of Milwaukee near the Illinois / Wisconsin border. We have contracted work in the following states: IL, WI, IA, IN, MI, OH, NE, NV, PA and TX.

When did you start your website and why?

SCCI's BRAND NEW website went live April 16th 2007. Our previous website was poorly designed using Front Page software and completed in house. We hired on a new Marketing Representative who created a story board for the site and outsourced it for coding to a company called Vision Friendly Web Engineering, located in Sugar Grove, IL. The site is a million times more user friendly and allows us to communicate more effectively our services, history, dedication to safety to the public.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Len Swederski Construction was formed in 1985 and incorporated in Illinois as Swederski Concrete Construction Inc, (SCCI) in 1993. As our business grew it became evident that to be successful in the industry we needed to do things better than our competition and offer our customers and employees something special. We have accomplished this by providing our employees fair wages, occupational training, a safe and drug/alcohol free work place, company paid health, dental and life insurance, retirement and profit sharing, and providing them the best and most advanced equipment available to do their job. This in turn provides value to our customers and has lead to the development of long term relationships.

SCCI specialized in the placement of concrete foundations, concrete parking lots and roadways, concrete flatwork and finishes, and concrete white-topping in commercial, industrial, and residential settings.

Training is important in our industry due to increased demands on managers/supervisors, technological advances in systems and equipment and reduced availability of labor coming into the construction industry. As an American Concrete Institute (ACI) certified finisher/instructor and an NCCER instructor for carpentry and concrete, Len Swederski, president of SCCI, and his staff, have provided our crews the training necessary to compete for any high end job in the industry. The percentage of our employees that have ACI certification is probably larger than any in the United States. Through the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Len has volunteered the time to teach ACI classes and provide ACI Certified Finisher exams for hundreds of union and merit shop tradesman in IL and WI within the last 10 years.

Safety is always a priority at SCCI. We currently employ a full time HR/Safety person. Our investment in Safety has paid off with hundreds of thousands of dollars in insurance premium savings and reduced lost time accidents over the years. Our safety savings is returned to our workforce by way of our profit sharing program and through special incentives. Our NCCI modifier has been at or below the industry average for over a decade. In 2003, the NCCI rate was at .72. The industry average is set at 1.0.

Drug and Alcohol testing was initiated in 1993 when SCCI became one of the pioneers in the construction industry to implement a zero tolerance drug/alcohol use in the workplace. An Employee Assistance Program and services is provided for our employees. See our Safety page for more information on our policies and awards.

Today, SCCI is a successful full service concrete contractor with the workforce and equipment capability to meet your schedules and to construct foundation work and interior/exterior flatwork to meet or exceed the specifications of your project. Our business is financially strong with good bonding power and ready for your project.
