Collin County Station Interview

Texas local Collin County Station Interview
Name of your website?

Collin County Station

Your name?

Frank

Your Location (city, etc)

Collin County

When did you start your website and why?

I started Collin County Station several years ago as a "quick links" page for my personal use. About the middle of last year, I realized that I had quite a collection of links to Collin County Texas and that this might be useful to others. From my own experience, I find that searching the web often yields results that have little relationship to what was really being searched for.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

We provide text links for businesses, organizations and other Collin county related web sites. These are categorized by city and other means. The main page provides some history and information about Collin county, Texas. Text links in our city pages re free. Our intent is to provide a site where visitors can find links to anything in Collin County they might need in one easy to find place.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

Finding links to businesses, organizations and other such web sites to place on Collin County Station has been, to say the least, a challenge. Searches for topics seldom yield the results desired. As example: A search for the term Collin County Texas will yield results for Dallas County and other counties along with a few sites related to Collin County.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

Uploading changes to the server. :)

What was your biggest mistake?

Not thinking the thing through enough ... or thinking too much about what I want to do. Sometimes one can think too much and make worse mistakes than just following a "gut" reaction.

Who maintains your website and why?

Collin County Station is maintained by three people. Me, Myself, and I. There are times that I think that I have too much help and considerations are made for layoffs, but then I also find that sometimes I wish I could hire some more help. :)

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

It gives me something to do and keeps me off the streets. Of course, at my age, I probably wouldn't be on the streets anyway. :)

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I'd like to think that the internet is finally moving away from all the hype and getting back to providing networking for people, but that's probably just a dream.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

maddening! :D

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

As long as search engines keep providing everything that the searcher doesn't want, they help my site considerably.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I'm the last person you want to ask this. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

See previous answer. ;)

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

Don't really know. Too much to list and my view of perfection is a bit warped.

What is your website address?

Collin County Station
