When did you start your website and why?
The SPACEPOL Website appeared on the net for the first time on the 31st of October 1998. SPACEPOL was the first cybernetwork to unite gifted researchers in the fields of Space Law and Public Technology Policy Analysis. The site has undergone three major revisions since then. Originally intended as a closed resource for storage and dissemination of internal research data, the site has become both a general resource for these fields open to the public and a research portal offering access only to qualified experts in the fields
Since 1998, the SPACEPOL Website in its various forms has been an educational resource for the fields of Space Law and Public Technology Policy viewed millions of times by visitors from all over the world. There is hardly a serious researcher in these fields who has not heard of or utilised the site at one time or another.
Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc
SPACEPOL is a wholly expert-owned and operated academic publishing house and research network for the fields of Space Law, Space Policy and Public Technology Policy. We are among the few enterprises offering expert consulting and educational services for these fields. As early as 1994 the groundwork for the idea of a cyberresearch network was laid when our founder constructed a research website to receive survey responses from members of the European Space Agency.
Officially founded in 1998, we are a Quebec and Finland-based enterprise working within two strategic government sectors and publishing expert literature which promotes knowledge in these fields.
What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?
Being proficient in the book industry is not enough for us. The cornerstone of our concept as an academic service provider is that everything from publishing of academic titles to the consulting and academic research which provides the content for these books ought to remain under the stringent control of experts who are the best in their fields. Because of this philosophy and thanks to our review process which involves numerous experts at universities around the globe, SPACEPOL can boldly claim to provide the best academic literature in our fields of expertise.
