What inspired you to launch your own website?

I worked as a recruiter for Web Designers and decided I should learn HTML (10 years ago) to develop a better understanding of the people I was dealing with.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

9 years ago, it was a recruitment web site for web designers called Interactive recruitment

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Name of the business

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

We quote on business using a online cart to select the products the customer is interested in. This enables us to target higher volume work and offer discounts on larger orders.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

The business could not run solely from the web site, but it generates more enquiries than Yellow pages adverts. Its definately harder work now than a few years ago when competition wasn't as great.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Log in for customers & full online ordering + expand number of products listed from 1700 to several thousand.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

No, moderate growth would be better

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None really, although the business could not have paid a web designer to put in the amount of work that has gone into the site.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Can I just say the search engine who's first letter is G. I love G., but trying to understand it has been my biggest challenge.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Its probably more administrative than I expected, even with content management tools.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

3 Years, and will continue so long as it generates enquiries.
