Please give us a short summary of your website?
Free downlaodable & adaptable worksheets for secondary English teachers, as well as education-based links, search facilities and resources to assist teachers with their overall planning and preparation.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I had a lot of material accumulating which I put together and which was working with my students. I felt that it would be a good idea to share it with other teachers as well as learn something new like web design in the process.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is it and I launched it a bit earlier this year.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Everyone calls me Christo, it's like a one word name people know me by and the activities in the web-site are a bit like a "lucky dip" and "links" are what web pages contain. It just seemed like a catchy title.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
It seems to be gradually evolving and taking on a life of its own. It's also very user friendly, simple and has adaptable content.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To keep the site growing as i develop new ideas across a wider range of year levels. To be more inclusive in terms of student content and other teachers' input.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
It has turned out better than i expected in such a short space of time. The feedback has been positive and constructive. The major investment has been time. You have to work at it. The monetary costs have been nearly zero which is great in any one's language
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I'd include a lot more interactivity and extend it to make it more relevant to teachers and students throughout other subject areas.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
It would be difficult as my own job (teaching) is very demanding in terms of time and energy. You can only try.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
The major problem has been dealing with technical mishaps and learning a new set of skills in terms of website development and maintenance. Still, it's been fun.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Developing new ideas and getting my head around new concepts involving putting together your website.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Link referral has been quite successful along with looking for quality education sites and submitting my site to them. It's hard work but worth it.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Probably the amount of time and effort trying to get it to the point where I'm reasonably satisfied with it.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Only since about February of this year (2008). For as long as i can. In fact, the whole process has given me ideas for other web sites I'd like to put together.
Do you enjoy running your own site
You bet I do. It's something that I've created and can share with others. It's a small statement of who I am that i can pass on to others for their use, reflection, response, etc., It's a way of constantly learning and evolving.
