Please give us a short summary of your website?
Hi, I’m Anthony Richardson and I am a leading British professional voice over artist. I specialise in cost effective, Received Pronunciation (accent-free), voice overs for film, television and radio. I also provide character voices for animation projects, narration for audio books and ‘on-hold’ messaging for telephone systems.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I originally trained as a sound technician at The Royal National Theatre in London where I learnt to edit, and even produce some early voice overs for theatre shows!
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was launched in 1999 and it was just a family page.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
www.overvoice.co.uk is great for the search engines and the "voiceover" version had long since been taken.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
My website showcases my vocal ability and proves that you can have a successful VO career without an agent! ;o)
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My goal is to secure more Disney animation work and eventually take the lead vocal in an animation feature that my kids can watch.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
A small digital studio is quite cheap and most voice over jobs are well paid (if you're lucky) so the investment was a good one.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Bigger, better, more interactive website and a better studio?
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Sadly no - but I'd be more selective about the work I took on.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
A dead PC is always an 'issue' when you are producing digital recordings!
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting high enough in the search engine 'organic' listings so that I didn't have to pay for PPC.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
That's would be my biggest secret. SEO is a very 'black art' and I am a VERY experienced optimiser, heh, heh! Just type 'voice over artist' into Google.co.uk and see.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It's been a lot more hands-off than I thought. My website is really just a brochure for my business so I don't have to do much.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site has been up and running for about 2 years and paid for itself time and time again. I will keep running it until I am 110 years old - and then probably look for a new challenge.
Why do you consider yourself the UK's leading voice over artist?
Well, with no agent and my own digital studio, I am MUCH more cost effective than most voice overs and with over 20 years experience, I can generally get the sound and feel most producers / directors are after, very quickly.
