Please give us a short summary of your website?
The Marlow language Centre is a language school and translation house offering language courses and translation services in over 50 years languages. The school is based in a lovely Victorian flint cottage in the heart of Marlow. Marlow is a picturesque town situated on the banks of the river Thames just an hour away from London.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
The vast majority of our client base has traditionally always come from personnal recommendations however we felt in order to open up the school to a wider audience and increase visability it was vital that we set up our own website.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Our co.uk website was lanched 8 years however our new .com website was launched at the end of 2007.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Many people in the local region already knew of us as the Marlow Language Centre so it made sense to stick with the name of the school
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
The Marlow Language Centre is a family run language school and we offer that personnal touch that many other language schools and translation providers cannot. We don't want any of our students to think that they are just another number. The website details all the language courses on offer in a clear and concise way.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Our eventual goal is to open language schools throughout the world giving everyone the gift of language.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
The school is open from 07:30 to 19:30 Monday to Friday and 09:00 - 14:00 Saturday so we've had to make a lot of sacrifices. Some days it can be a real hard slog however all the finacial rewards our far outweighed by the satisfaction we get from helping students achieve the fluency that they have been striving for
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
We would increase our advertising spend and concentrate on our brand awareness. People the world over want to learn or improve their English and if they all knew about us then our class rooms would be full 24/7
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
We have a good team and a very well organised set up with teachers from over 50 different countries. We have spent many years developing quality teachers and bespoke language courses and would relish the challenge of greater demand.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Maintainig the spirit of the school after the death and founder of the Marlow Language Centre in 2006. She was the life and soul of the school and was loved by students and teacher alike.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Too early to gauge yet but it looks like SEO
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
The pace in which things change on the internet.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Our new website has only been running for just over a month but we see the Internet as playing a key role in the future of the school and will keep running it as long as the school is open
