Specialist online retailer of kitchen tv products.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Working for companies who couldn't provide a good service to the customer.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Buy Clever Stuff in 1999, selling a range of electrical products.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It just sounded quite sparky and new.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
We have huge buying power and test products before we sell them to customers.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Retire somewhere nice!
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Fairly well, I am happy with the work/life balance at the moment!
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Share more responsibility for the day to day running of the business, with suitably qualified managers.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes. Our business is constantly growing and we have developed our logistics to incorporate this happening.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Manufacturers can sometimes let you down and this can give you 101 headeaches!
What has been your biggest challenge?
Developing the SEO side of the business.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Google pay per click and HTML coded sites.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It's been OK. We are currently reviewing a number of issues to take the websites forward.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
9 Years; that will continue for the forseeable future.
