Your name?
Amanda
Your Location (city, etc)
County Durham
Please give us a short summary of your website?
I make personalised handcrafted greeting cards for special occasions. Yep another card maker
What inspired you to launch your own website?
The idea behind the website was to show the world my cards and how different my style was to other card makers.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I launched in June 2007 and although it is getting alittle bit better i think it has a very long way to go before being perfect.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I used to get the rhyme Milly Molly Mandy sweet as sugar candy... when i was young and most of my family still call me milly molly.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
My cards are unique because they are designed to be cheerised for years to come and not thrown in the recycle bin
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I plan on growing this business i have plenty of ideas. Then perhaps later on down the line my daughter (who is only 1 but a keen crafter for sure) might help or take over. My son could also but at the moment he has his heart set on becoming a superhero.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
At the moment i spend more time and effort on my business but i am just new and i hope that in a year or two this will all even itself out
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would Advertise ALOT more. Iwould have my website designed by a professional and perhaps have two or more seperate websites for the different sides of the business.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Of course i would. Thankfully i am lucky to be doing something i love and fortunitly i can sit up most night happily making cards and forgettting the time.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
none just yet, but saying that i could have used abit more money on advertising
What has been your biggest challenge?
Trying to keep the balance right between work and family.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Google add words.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
it is alot of hard work trying to get people to your website. And then when they are there it is just as hard trying to get them to buy.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Christmas is in on the way. so if i dont get sales through at christmas then i would probably seriously tink about closing but at the moment i am quite content.
