Please give us a short summary of your website?
This is a brand new website which aims to help people who want to work abroad and learn a foreign language, find jobs as au pairs, nannies, mother's helps, carers, housekeepers, domestic workers etc. It also helps families offering these kind of jobs to find the right person for their needs.
The website works by allowing users to post free 'advertisements' or browse the site to find someone who is right for them.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Having worked in the au pair and nanny agency business for many years, I could see a need for families and au pairs alike to want to use the Internet to find a good 'match' for themselves and have an alternative to paying higher agency fees for an individual service.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
We first launched our own website 10 years ago as a small UK-based au pair agency.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
After a lot of thought, it seemed to us that people want to find the 'right' person for their family - the right au pair, the right nanny etc - and that job applicants wanted to find the 'right' family: hence Right Person.
rightperson-online.com is the generic name of the company and this incorporates; rightperson-aupair.com rightaupair.com rightperson-nanny.com rightperson-carer.com
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
We have strived not only to produce a site which matches au pairs and families but to make it professional, pleasing to look at, easy to use and with a constantly changing Home Page. We have also tried very hard to make it a useful site. It has good quality information with a large Frequently Asked Questions section, free downloads and translations into many languages.
I think one of the other things, which makes rightperson-aupair stand out from the crowd, is also the fact that we try to ask in the registration forms, as many questions as possible. It is a tricky balance between putting people off with long forms, and getting enough information, but ultimately, the more information that is gathered, the more accurate and useful the eventual matches are. In this way, we also attract only serious users.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
The goal for rightperson-online.com is 3-fold.; 1. We wish to continue to improve upon it by extending the information, by adding more languages and better translations (if anyone out there wishes to do some translating for us, do contact us!)and by building up the number of users so that it is a world-leading site of its kind. 2. If we can achieve this successfully, we would then like to extend the type of jobs on offer on the site to encompass other areas. 3. We aim to run a 'bespoke' individual service alongside the main website, so that we can also help those looking for work, but who don't wish to 'trust' the Internet on its own.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
At the moment we are just at the launching stage....come back and ask us this in a year's time! :-)
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
We would love to add features to our site (all in our future plans) - for instance adding video and sound clips so that au pairs and families can hear and see each other; by adding currency converters, time zone facilities etc. We have lots of ideas but won't give the game away too much at the moment:-)
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
We carefully thought this one through before launch. The site has been designed with the facility to sift literally thousands of profiles in a few seconds and is inbuilt with a powerful sorting tool so that people can find someone who exactly fits their needs however large the site.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
There are always unexpected costs when launching a professional site such as rightpeson-aupair.com. However, with careful planning and testing at each stage of the build, hopefully we have managed to avoid most pitfalls and have also come in on budget.
What has been your biggest challenge?
How to promote the site effectively to a budget.
What would be your preferred method in an ideal world for promoting your website?
In an ideal world, it would be fantastic if people looked at our website and saw a genuinely good and useful site - and then told all their friends! You can't beat word of mouth.
