Trek East Africa Interview

By Interviewer at 01/09/09 15:04

Name of your website?

Trek East Africa

Your name?

Baluku Geoffrey

Your Location (city, etc)

Kampala

Please give us a short summary of your website?

TREK EAST AFRICA

Welcome to East Africa’s one stop tourism Think Tank. The purpose of this Think Tank is to provide regular, up to date information on the regions tourism and to engage tourists, students, policy makers and professionals from the industry in great discussions and exchange of ideas on the sectors developments and challenges. You are invited to comment on articles posted on this blog and let everyone know what you think.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Challenges of Tourism development in the East African Region inspired me to come up with a forum where we could always come up with solutions. On a general note it was a question of my passion for tourism

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Trek East Africa is my first site

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Wanted to cover the high lights in East Africa that is a region re known for Mountain Climbing, Gorilla Treks and Safaris.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

It is the first of its kind in the region. This think tank will surely go a long way in educating our people on the opportunities and challenges of tourism in East Africa

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My eventual goal is to see this site as a one stop information centre on East Africa's Tourism

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Mine is a question of passion. Time and Money have nothing to do with my success particularly for this site.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would Convert the blog into a full fledged website

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Oh yes....

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None at the moment. It should be noted that I believe in accuracy and timely information thats why I have not had any headaches

What has been your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge is in convincing the Political Heavy weights in the region to appreciate tourism the more.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Linking up with more prominent sites and through google search engines

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I am on the right track. Every thing seems to be moving as expected

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I have run it for about 6 months. I am optimistic that it will remain a going concern. (There will surely be continuity)

Which is your favourite tourism activity

I passionate about Gorilla trekking

What is your website address?

Trek East Africa
