Your Location (city, etc)

Please give us a short summary of your website?
We provide Live online CXC lessons, where you can actually see hear and speak to your teacher. This is a first of it's kind service in the Caribbean, using advanced web conferencing technology. We have had over 530 students with us since our initial launch in June 2007.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Convenience learning. With so many things taking precedence in our lives, alternative methods of education had to be made available. Online tutoring in this format is refreshingly simple and effective because of the high level of interaction between students and teachers.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
First website was launched June 2007, under the name CXClessons.com
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The name Caribbean Tutors was decided upon because we wanted to achieve a regional online learning community, with students and tutors from across the Caribbean. Hence, the name.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
The site brings a lot of advanced features to the Caribbean, and the high quality of our teachers will set us apart as more institutions come into the market.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Our eventual goal, is to be a complete education centre. From primary to tertiary education, Caribbean Tutors will be able to adequately satisfy your educational needs
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
The investment has been great, students love the system and the teachers have been excited about it
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Incorporating more web 2.0 technology to help our youth become computer savvy and informed.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes, there has been a huge response from the teachers, who would be the biggest factor in determining our ability to meet increased growth. This would ensure we are able to meet a spike in demand suddenly. The opportunity it provides, being able to work from home, is a great determining factor
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Server upgrades, changes in policy that led us to switch our hosts.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Biggest challenge has been in the early stages of the site. We did not expect the level of interest generated, and thus were not prepared with enough teachers. This led to some problems in the first 3 months.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Google Adwords have proven very effective. The system is easy to use, and gets results very quickly. I would recommend it to new site owners
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It has proved to be very time consuming, since a lot of research has to be continually done to meet and exceed customer expectations
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
1 year, forever
