Pattaya bridge club, Thailand Interview

By Interviewer at 07/24/07 08:13

Thailand games Pattaya bridge club, Thailand Interview
Name of your website?

Pattaya bridge club, Thailand

Your name?

Terry Quested

Your Location (city, etc)

Pattaya

When did you start your website and why?

To post results of our bridge club competitions and to publish club and bridge information.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

The website not only contains club information, but also has extensive sections on bridge bidding, conventions etc.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

Getting a frames-based site to have a decent Google PR ranking. It was annoying to type in 'bridge, club, Pattaya' and have sites about a golfer who visited the river Kwai ranked way above my site.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

A bridge scoring program that produces the results in HTML format.

What was your biggest mistake?

Starting with a website given to me for free rather than having a professional set it up for me. I was new to web site design and did not know that the base web site was a can of worms.

Who maintains your website and why?

Me. I am retired and it keeps me busy.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

Our bridge club gets plenty of visitors who have found out that there is a bridge club in Pattaya.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I don't like sites that are full of adverts.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

You learn as you go along! It has been very interesting for me to get my frames-based site up to PR5.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

There are a few problems in that you have to take SEO into account with your web design and with new pages. Unfortunately, having a high Google PR is generally considered to be more important than having a site with valuable content.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Directory submissions I think, but obviously making the site SEO friendly is very important, together with continual updates. I also have a sitemap but don't know if that really helps as Google seems to trundle through the site and seems to largely ignores the sitemap.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Having frames. I had to make the main page non-frames and minimize the number of frame pages. These frame pages are not on the sitemap but Google still finds them and even gives some of them a decent PR3 although the content is minimal!

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

Google and other search engines should be capable of coping with frame technology without the webmaster having to do so much messing about.

What do you think of the average directory?

It seems to be getting better now, but many do not have enough categories. Only about 10% have games > card games.

What is your website address?

Pattaya bridge club, Thailand
