Dallas Keen Racing Stables Interview

Texas, Horse Racing: Dallas and Donna KeenName of your website?

Dallas Keen Racing Stables

Your name?

Dallas and Donna Keen

Your Location (city, etc)

Burleson, Texas

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Informative website about horse racing, claiming, and care of thoroughbred racehorses.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

We felt it necessary to give our owners and prospective clients insight as to what goes on each day at the track by installing live web cameras and making them accessible to everyone with Internet access. Owners as well as horse enthusiasts all over the country enjoy watching the track cams and the cameras at our breeding farm in Burleson, Texas.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I built this website myself. It was difficult at first but I quickly got the hang of it with help from its host, Network Solutions. I added pages and info as the years pass.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

We named the website with the stable name, Dallas Keen Racing Stables.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

Our site is different because it is owner-involved by giving them daily access to their horses.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Horse training is very time consuming. We wake up early to go to the track, and stay up late reading condition books, looking for races for horses, and talking on the phone to owners. It is all worth it when you win races and experience the joy with others.

How long have you been training horses and how did you start?

Dallas was fortunate to be the son of a life long horse trainer. His father, Elmer (Corky) Keen had always been in the horse racing and training business. Dallas started galloping racehorses at 7 years old and was put on the payroll at 9. He has spent his whole life training horses and has been extremely successful. He especially excels with horses that others have given up on and on getting horses back to the track after injuries.

Do you provide care for horses after they retire from racing?

Yes. My greatest concern for racehorses is what happens to them after their careers are over. We take in horses from owners from all over the country and rehabilitate and retrain them for new lifestyles as riding horses. Horses that are unable to ride due to injuries we find companion homes with families that are financially able to care for whatever needs they may have. No horse should go without a life long committed owner after they have given so much to us and we strive to insure their happiness.

What tracks do you race at?

We race at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans from November to March each year as well as a smaller stable kept at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston, Texas. The spring and summer is spent at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas so we may be close to home during foaling season. We also race at Remington Park, Retama Park, and Louisiana Downs.

How do prospective clients reach you?

Anyone interested in speaking to Dallas Keen about training racehorses should call him at 817-528-6655 anytime after training hours which end at 10 am.

I rode with your sister, Della yesterday. We had a blast. We were both on Arabs..scooting thru the woods. I told her I was interested in getting my next horse psossibly a TB. She told me about you..

my wish..a horse that looks like IZ Grand..but older, a gleding up to 16 hands..broke, and comfortable. I take very good care of my horses, and do lots of riding with them. Have always had Arabs, and only keep 2 horses fyi

Thanks!! you have a very nice sister((:
