Please give us a short summary of your website?
Our website is all about RELAXATION. We offer fabric and rope hammocks, hammock swing chairs and hammock accessories.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
We enjoy RELAXING. Being self-employed allows a person to RELAX, if even just for a short while (or so we thought).
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My Hammock Store opened in June 2006.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I think I may have been RELAXING a bit too much the day I named "My Hammock Store". The name could be a little more exciting, but I don't think we'll change it now.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
My Hammock Store offers traditional hammocks by time-tested manufacturers who focus on quality as priority.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My goal is to spend my retirement relaxing in a hammock on a Florida beach and still run My Hammock Store.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
The success is slowly catching up with the investment of time and money.
Do you have any other internet stores?
Yes. We just opened Bar Stool Bill in December 2007. We worked a little harder to name that one. That's too long of a story for an interview, however. Visit http://www.barstoolbill.com and read the About Us page.
Why did you choose bar stools for your other internet store?
I guess it all comes back to that RELAXING thing. It is a good thing to have a place to recline or sit down. We really enjoy our kitchen bar stools.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My dogs nudging my hand off the mouse pad when I am trying to work at the computer has been a challenge. Really, I don't mind, though. Having my dogs around keeps me RELAXED.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I thought running a website would required discipline and a lot of time, which it does. What I did not expect was how attached I would become to my web creations. I have put my heart and soul into my websites, and I am very protective of them.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
My Hammock Store has only been around a couple of years and has seen increasing success. I don't plan on going anywhere for a long time.
What's so great about a hammock, anyway?
Once you try one, you'll never have to wonder again. Have a relaxing day!
