What inspired you to launch your own website?
When my husband lost his job last year I was forced into finding another means of work. I searched the internet for months, until the candy wrapping world found ME!!! I've always been a creative person, so it was the perfect marriage and I haven't regretted my husband losing his job ever since. I'm happy he lost his job, because I found a new lover - Candy Wrapper Business!!!!
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was launched in late 2007 and I had no clue what I was doing. Well, I still don't, but I'm learning and teaching myself everyday. Wrapperlicious.com is my baby and will always be my first!
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Welll....I put the word Wrapper and Delicious together and made Wrapperlicious. Although the wrapper isn't delicious, but the inside of it is...YUM!
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
Now that is a GREAT question. HONESTLY, I do not really think my site is much different from any of the other sites out there. Sometimes we even have some of the same wrappers on our sites. I think it's a matter of how you market yourself and your customer service. OH...and I have the only site on the market with a hip hop/urban line of candy wrappers that I just adore!
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My eventual goal is to leave my day time job and work Wrapperlicious full-time. So I'm juggling three smalll children, a full-time job, running my household and trying to stay on top of Wrapperlicious. Sometimes I feel torn in so many directions, but I'm not going to quit, because I really love wrapperlicious and all the wonderful people I've met along the way.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
It's really. Like I said before, juggling three smalll children, a full-time job, running my household and trying to stay on top of Wrapperlicious, I feel torn in so many directions. It's tough. If I would just work on Wrapperlicious, I would be the happiest gal in the world...smile.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
First of all, I would quit my day job, hire a professional to revamp my website, add more products to my website and begin a 911 Wrapper company to help new candy wrappers on the market. I LOVE helping people. I've me so many competitors that I help with their own candy wrapping business. It's my nature to help & if they succeed from my help, then I succeed.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Then that would be an opportunity to rethink my day job. Like I said before, I would LOVE to follow my passion and my heart and work my candy wrapping business full-time. It's my passion.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
ARGH....another great question...BUYING TONER FOR MY LASER PRINTER! Toner is so expensive, but you get a better quality product. The price point for the wrappers really do not add up to the amount of money we spend on wrappers. That's the downside...TONER COSTS!!!
What has been your biggest challenge?
Time. Juggling three smalll children, a full-time job, running my household, trying to stay on top of Wrapperlicious and keep the peace with my husband who is very jealous. He says the computer is my boyfriend and that he's neglected. Hey, if I could work on a new design or fill an order, I think that's more productive than sitting in front of a television, which is what he would like me to do with him. It's so hard trying to please everyone!
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Nothing...Smile. Most of my orders are from word of mouth. I would love to have most of my orders from the internet.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Okay, once you put up a website, you THINK that you're going to have people flocking to your site...NOT!!! It's the complete opposite. You have to figure out how to market your site and it's been my biggest challenge since starting my website.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
My site has been up for a little over a year and I plan to stay in the business another year or two, longer if the business actually picks up. I would love for it to be a lifetime, but there are times when you just have to let something go if it's not working. But for now, I'm not ready to quit!!!
If you had your choice, would you like to be doing something else?
NOPE. I believe everything in life happens for a reason and my husband lost his job for a reason. I believe the candy wrapping community found me and I'm so glad they did, because this business is so fulfilling and satisfies my creative beast.
