LankaBuddies.com is the only Sri Lankan Community site where you can join other Sri Lankans around the globe, interact with them, make friends, chat and discuss anything under the sun.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
There is no good website where sri lankans around the world can meet and make friends similar to myspace. Its hard to find Sri Lankans in sites like myspace, facebook. This site is only for Sri Lankans, but with all the features of Myspace with a Sri Lankan touch.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
It was launched in June 2007
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Wanted a name that suggests a name of a Sri Lankans Friends/Community site, thus Lankabuddies was most appropriate
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
Professionally designed and developed, looks and functions very similar to myspace. No other sri lankan site has these features.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Get as much Sri Lankans around the world to join our site and share their views, make friends, and make it a daily meeting place.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Its pretty good so far, close to 800 members and still getting popular.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would probably let people upload videos similar to youtube, where currently users can only upload mp3s, but can still embedd youtube videos
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Definitely, we are currently running no expandable servers with dilay backups and high bandwidth
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Fortunately not yet !!!
What has been your biggest challenge?
To get the message to Sri Lankans that we are different from other Sri Lankan sites and that its FREE
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Inviting people to join across websites and network sites
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
We didnt expect many members to join so quickly, so we are thrilled that people like the concept of our website
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
almost a year and we will continue to run it as long as people use it
