What inspired you to launch your own website?
Well, I moved to Madrid 6 years ago as a single parent with my then 9 year old son. At the time I found it really difficult to get good quality concise information on schools and so on and just wished there had been something like my website at the time to make life a lot more simple.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
this is my first website.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It speaks for itself really
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
The information is simple, clear, the website is fun, easy to navigate and I have tried to minimise unnecessary fluffy information.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To early to say. i would just love to see it get loads of traffic and know that my many evenings have been put to good use
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Success for me is just knowing that one family's journey to Madrid, be it for a visit or relocation purposes, has been made easier thanks to kidsinmadrid.com
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Perhaps I would have a professional look at the design a little. It's very much a home made website and much as I like to think that I am "creative" I know that I lack in that area a lot
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I would consider the situation at that time. Probably get a bigger hosting package for starters, taking on someone to lend me a hand.....
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
so far none related to the web. The only costs have been my time but for me it's been a pleasure to try something new as I have never put a web together before. Who says old dogs don't learn new tricks?
What has been your biggest challenge?
I guess the hardest part is getting people to visit your site
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
It's too early to say, but forums are a good place if the forum allows you to mention your site as many don't.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It's actually a little easier than I thought
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
It's only been up a week! I hope to renew my domain for many many more years
How would you sum up what kids in Madrid is about?
Providing English speaking families in Spain with a helping hand from someone who has been in the same situation
What is your website address?
