Please give us a short summary of your website?
A collection of ideas and advice for families with children written up by a mother of three, who likes cooking. Recipes, information on natural health, books, ideas for kids' parties and more.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I already had a blog and wanted a more permanent place to collect all the recipes and ideas that I come across and share them with other online moms.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
10 months ago. This is it.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Food and Family were the things that I wanted to write about in my articles, so that became the name of the web site. I didn't then know that Kraft foods also use the name for their magazine!
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Food and Family is a purely personal vision of family life. It isn't trying to sell anything directly, just provide a resource for other like-minded people, collect good recipes and articles together and give a warm and fuzzy feeling.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I hope to earn some income through Adsense and affiliate programs and use to site to collect all the articles I've written into one place.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
My investment has mostly been in time and it has been a useful vehicle for honing writing skills and learning about web sites. Monetary return, I hope will come with time as the site gets seen more.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would make it into a general article resource on all food and family related topics and accept submissions from other quality wrtiers.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
MOstly to do with servers going down, service providers having hiccups and the usual internet headaches.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Keeping the momentum going, when as a mother of three I have hundreds of daily distractions.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Article writing.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I didn't know what to expect.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
10 months. Will keep adding to it and see how it grows - it's all a mater of time and organic growth.
What's your favourite smell?
Freshly baked bread, just out of the oven in time for lunch.
What is your website address?
