What is your websites' purpose?
IZA Business Directory is South Africa's favourite and best business directory, with thousands of listings from all over the country.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
We wanted to create the most affordable directory solution to SA. With a beautiful design, quick and easy navigation, a professional layout and all the free stuff, it's easy to see why we've become the best.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Our first website project was Mini Webs. We had launched it in March 2007
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Brainstorming around a very big table with loads of coffee and pizza
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
IZA Business Directory offers listings at the most affordable price in South Africa. We also give our customers and beautiful listing design and an anti-spammable email address.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
We would like to keep growing and make the website better. Include more free stuff ect.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
The most spent on the website is time, we can sometimes go for a couple of days on end but the success is just phenominal
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would make everything free.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes, definately. IZA & The Broken Lizard both have dedicated teams for every section of the website.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
The ever increasing bandwith prices. We have also had some Google custom search engine problems
What has been your biggest challenge?
Out of all the subsections at IZA. The Business Directory was the biggest challenge
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Google Adwords
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Almost the whole site has evolved into something I could not conceive, but is very good us.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
7 Months. We will try to keep it running forever.
