Please give us a short summary of your website
My site is for people who know English but want to learn how to speak better. I believe that the more someone listens, the more they learn. So they can listen to conversations spoken in English, articles that are read aloud in English, or watch one of the many videos.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I noticed the way I tried to learn other languages and the problems other people were facing even when they had spoken that language for years.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is my first site and I launched it on May 1st, 2009
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The idea for the name was used from a site my father had done a long time ago. And everything else just sounded right.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
My site is different because I am focusing on one main attribute to learning another language. And it is often overlooked.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My main goal for my site is to know that I am helping people learn English and to keep it for income later down the road.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I am just starting out now. But I think that the effort I am putting in will eventually show through our visitor numbers.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would only add better features such as a text to speech generator where someone could type in the words that they want to hear spoken. If I could afford the expensive programs like Photoshop, the site might jsut get a little easier. Not so much change.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes I believe that I could keep up because the site is fully developed as is right now. All I need to do is keep adding new material.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
The headaches I have had to deal with so far are learning CSS, and knowing how to adjust CSS to fit my site.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My RSS feed went down for about a week. I spent all day everyday trying to figure it out. I finally found what I needed to fix. What a RELIEF!!
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
So far it has been word of mouth. However I want more visitors than the friends that I have told coming to the site.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It has been a very exciting thing to be doing. I enjoy the challenges I face everyday and am very satisfied when I accomplish them.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
It has only been up for a month. But I would like to keep this site for as long is possible. I want it to be a site that people can remember and visit even if they haven't been there in a while. Even if it may be only a few people. However the amount of visitors will directly show on my updating the site.
How much time goes into developing and thinking about your site?
Since this is my first site, I spend all day working on my site. Some problems take a while for me to fix, HAHA. And the rest of the time I am thinking of how to improve it. I really like this site and I hope my enthusiasm never changes.
