Scotland directory Moo Directory Interview
Name of your website?

Moo Directory

Your name?

Graham Lyons

Your Location (city, etc)

Edinburgh

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The Moo Directory has been launched after repeated requests from our clients in our main search engine optimisation business.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

A personal website over 10 years ago for my family and friends to keep up with what was going on in my life.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Its a very long story, but basically myself and the other founding member support a football team called Cowdenbeath. Their mascot is a COW.....from COW(denbeath) and as you can probably imagine a lot of mooing goes on. Most of our products carry the Moo branding in some form now and our clients recognise us from this

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Our Online Web Directory is a 100% Human Edited resource ensuring that each and every site listed is of a high standard of quality. The directory is a great tool to drive additional traffic to your website. We review every submission manually and have some strict policy's regards spamming and bad practices.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

We wanted to make a site that truly is human edited and dedicated to maintaining quality above quantity.

We are a hugely successful Search Engine Optimisation company - http://www.moovinonup.com and we are investing those skills into this new project.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

We aim to become one of the largest Human Edited Web Directories whilst always maintaining the quality level. We have DMOZ as our main inspiration.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

This isn't a profit driven project, we will measure our success on the popularity and exposure the site achieves.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

We are pretty happy with the site as it is now. We charge a nominal fee as this usually deters the time wasters and spammers which means a lot of editing by our team. If budget was unlimited we could devote more editors to the job thus making the site free.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, and we have a marketing strategy in place to ensure that happens.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

It's hard to say because of the nature of "unexpected" things but the search engine results can never be guaranteed no matter how well planned for and that could slow down our growth though we are confident we can provide the quality to shine through.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Incorporating good ethical search engine optimisation techniques whilst making the directory as easy as possible for users and our admin team.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

We are still fairy new and currently its been from referrals and recommendations from people who know us but as we now drive forward we aim to do lots of online and offline marketing and promotions

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Its a long hard process to get all the categories in place and I fully expect them to continue to be refined for some time yet as new submissions request new categories above what we already have.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The site has only been launched in the last few weeks but we have a minimum target of 24 months before we expect to be getting close to the level we are aiming for. We are a very determined company and our marketing background will make this project a success. The only question mark is how fast we can do this.

A Question to you guys

Where would i be able to view the article from above and if you have any ideas or suggestions to mutually beneficial marketing strategies we would love to discuss them. Contact me on admin@moo-directory.com

What is your website address?
