Name of your website?

Katrina Ballard Professional Makeup Artist

Your name?

Katrina Ballard

Your Location (city, etc)

London

When did you start your website and why?

My website was established in April 2007 to help expand my business and gain exposure.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Makeup by Katrina features Katrina Ballard, a certified makeup artist, offering services for weddings, bridal parties, special events, birthdays, photography and runway. She offers in studio and onsite makeup applications in London and within South Western Ontario.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

The most difficult task was finding a professional web designer that understood my vision and was able to consistently meet my needs and create a web site that was graphically pleasing and functional.

What has been the easist past of operating your website?

The easiest part of operating my site has been the built-in booking and question features. I've come to realize that my clients and myself both benefit from the convenient sending and receiving of information.

What was your biggest mistake?

One regreat I have is that my complete portfolio wasn't ready when the site was launched. However, I do have photo showcasing some recent work that I would be than happy to send to prospective clients.

Who maintains your website and why?

My site is maintained by Koncept Productions Web and Graphic Design (www.konceptpro.com). I did a lot of research for a web designer in the London, Ontario area. I found that Koncept Productions was a very affordable and talented web design company. I would highly recommend their services to any one looking for a web site developer.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

I feel the SEO is vital to get your site seen by your clientel. It's only essential due to the nature of computer code and relevance. If the internet could be simplified and and be used like a phonebook and still be accurate, SEO would not be needed. But it does, so we adapt.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Search Engines and Directories have helped create more traffic to my site and hence more interest.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Free online directories and Koncept Productions using SEO to promote relevance.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

I haven't noticed anything hindering my site. I'm happy with my website promotion.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

It would be nice to have larger all in one directories features direct pages to different categories. Having a list of all Ontario Makeup Artists, for example, would be a great way to compare services.

What is the strongest feature of your business?

I think it is important to be credible and provide excellent service to your clients. Business realtionships are important and can prove to be long lived.

Amber Shereen Photography Interview

By Interviewer at 05/09/07 19:47
Ontario photography Amber Shereen Photography Interview
Name of your website?

Amber Shereen Photography

Your name?

Amber Shereen

Your Location (city, etc)

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

When did you start your website and why?

I believe I published my first website in September 2006. As a photographer, it is necessary for my clients to be able to view my galleries and to learn about me and my fine art style of portraiture. In addition, I recently published my first blog, which allows me to develop and maintain a rapport with my clients. Here I share with them all the latest news, updates and promotions at the studio.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

My website is primarily comprised of my galleries, which highlight my photographic work in maternity, newborns, babies, children, and families. All my pricing information is also listed, along with my contact information and favorite links. You will find yourself there, listed on my links page. :)

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

The initial start up. Trying to figure everything out. It's like learning a new language in the beginning, especially if you know nothing about HTML. But then, as you become more familiar with it, it becomes easier and easier.

What has been the easist past of operating your website?

That I now have complete control of my website and am no longer relying on a webmaster to update my site for me. I do it myself whenever I please.

What was your biggest mistake?

Wasting money on a program I never did learn how to use and then purchasing a new site that basically had the same functions already built in. That was a shame.

Who maintains your website and why?

See two answers up.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

I've reached so many more people, of course, then would have been possible by word of mouth alone. And I can share my passion with the entire world. It's wonderful!

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

The future is HUGE! Basically, these days, if your business is not online in some capacity, it is not taken seriously.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

It's a wonderful thing which I hope to learn more about. I would really like to optimize my own site in the search engines. Especially now that I am relocating my business to a new city and am basically starting over again from the ground up.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Helped, of course. Again, I've reached so many more people because of the search engines.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

You got it! SEO!

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Newspaper ad, without a doubt.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

I would like to see less spammers and scammers. Also, I wish there were a better way to police the internet. There is so much criminal activity going on out there.
