Please give us a short summary of your website?
We provide the services of a spa in your own home. It did not make sense to us for women to go to all the efforts of receiving beautifying treatments only to brave the blistering summer heat or winter chill. As a result we decided to bring the spa to the client.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Being a mobile spa, we do not have a store front. In order to reach our clientele, we needed something similar to a store front. We decided that a website was the best and most cost effective way to provide information to the public.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
It was launched at the beginning of August, 2007. It is a simple site indicating our intentions of service for the Barrie Area. It allows customers to see our prices, packages, and services. Other services include a photo gallery, guest book and promotions sign-up page.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
We decided to name our site after our service to make it more accessible and simple for clients to understand who we are.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
We provide the same treatments offered in Day Spas but in the comfort and convenience of home.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Our biggest objective is to provide continual services to residences in the Barrie Area. Eventually, as the owner, I would like to hire other estheticians to perform services while I coordinate and book clients.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
The best part of a mobile business is that there is little initial start-up costs. I accumulated most of my supplies and tools over the years, so really all I needed to do was make an inventory and buy what was missing.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would open a chain of Mobile Spas internationally. I would also offer start-up cd's for other esthticians looking to become their own boss.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I hope so. I have the support of friends and family so I am sure I would receive the help I would need.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Understanding how a website works. SEO's and HTML...stuff like that. It is a pretty tricky business, but so important in a mobile business.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Up to this point, word-of-mouth and my website has been the most successful. People who hear good things take a look at the website and usually contact me after that.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Yes it has. It demands constant up-keep and maintenance. My boyfriend has a little more time than me during the week, so he has been looking after it.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
It has only been up a few weeks now. I plan on keeping it running until I sell the business and move to Cuba! *chuckles*
