What inspired you to launch your own website?
A need for a fast and convenient way for people in the Greater KW area to find job listings online. We forsee an end to searching multiple newspapers and website everyday looking for fresh employment opportunities in our service communities.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was a wrestling website that I launched when i was in grade 6. It was a great experience because it taught me much of the HTML I now use on a daily basis.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
We wanted something that would be easy to remember, topical, and fun.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
We are an extremely low cost operation, so we are able to pass these savings down to our employers, offering the lowest prices anywhere. We exclusively service the greater KW area, and so this is where we focus all of our marketing efforts. We are not just a regional node of a larger network, like many of our competitors. We live in the communities in which we operate so we are better able to serve our residents.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Our ultimate goal is to become a household name, and the number one source for fresh and relevant employment opportunities in the Greater Kitchener-Waterloo area.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Our site is administered part time, and our financial investment has been quite small, so we are quite happy with our success to date.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would make some modifications to the layout and add some new services that would be appreciated by our users.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I site is very scalable. We would have to upgrade to a larger hosting package, but other growing pains would be minimal.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Marketing to employers on a small budget.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Organic search engine promotion.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It is not as hands-off as you would expect. Even though many operations are automated, you have to constantly monitor everything and continually make improvements.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site has been running since January 2008, and will continue to operate into the forseeable future.
