Please give us a short summary of your website?
Well, it was started as a response to low immigration of skilled workforce. I realized there simply isnt enough websites out there to market and promote the important jobs to foreign nationalities. So i used some of my own money to create a website where companies and recruitment agencies can post their jobs under the rule that NO AGENCY OR EMPLOYER can or will charge the applicants any fees. Not that that would be much of a problem anyway, since such candidate or placement fees are illegal in Norway. :)
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I grew irritated by seeing tons and tons of positions being launched at a national adverts site ( for anything) , but not really catering to foreign nationalities. Norway has a mere 3% unemployment rate, and the country is suffering from a critical lack of SKILLED employees. If the big brasses wont do anything, the little man must do his share to promote this gorgeous country and the opportunities it presents. I hope through this site i will be able to bring more resourceful individuals or families to the country. I have links with tons of companies and agencies, so getting a job if you have the right qualifications isnt really a big deal. Now ... what those qualifications ARE is a different subject. Key words however are a minimum of Bachelors degree and a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant hands-on experience...
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I actually launched my own blog as my first website. Nothing fancy but i had a few things on my mind, and noone nearby to tell it to... so i figured " if noone NEAR me wanna hear.. i can shout it out on the internet - information wants to be free - right ?"
How did you decide on a name for your website?
For this one ? ... wel.. im educated within international marketig, so i figured " simplicity" .. i was planning a site for jobs in norway, mainly engineering.. and made a search on domain names available. Jobsinnorway.org turned out to be available, while other equal ones were reserved but not active...
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
I cater to the specific individual There are many like me, and its hard to navigate in the jungle of offers out there. I believe that since i AM small, i can give a significant better service to both the employers and potential employees out there...
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Oh i havent gotten around to think about that.. focus now is to generate traffic..
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
ouch... lets just say im glad i paid attention in financial investment basics at school, otherwize i would have cancelled this project long ago... creating this has cost a lot of money and time...
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
heh... good question.. i probably would have set it out to a major design, seo, consultancy company and have them go through it completely....
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
IF that happen i would live as i preach...and hire someone full time :)
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
not too much unexpected, .. ive gone on contracts all along, so if something unexpecetd has arise, its usually been on the supliers problem...
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting the cmpanies to go for someone else than the biggest national ad-suppplier... there are a lot of companies that understand they have to look outside Norway for employees, but can get their heads around the fact that they then have to invest in advertising outside the country.. :)
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
SEOíng ... link building, and ofcourse, happy candidates :)
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
hmm.. well.. i think i was perhaps too naively optimistic in the beginning.. .things DO take longer time to succeed than i thought :P
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
i have run it about ... 6 months... more under a trial period,.. i still have a few nicks and crooks to straighten out, but we are getting there...
So .. any last words before we wrap this up ?
Yes ... getting the right job is always a question of how much time and energy you INVEST in it... if you are willing to INVEST , that investment will pay off. Dont sit on the fence waiting for jobs to rain on you.. you have to hunt them....
