What inspired you to launch your own website?

To use the Internet as a medium to reach our numerous clients. Our clients mostly are applicants seeking admission into tertiary institution. Thus our website is a means of reaching also our teaming students in checking their results online and also their academic records. we also use it to advertise our products viz Schomis and Colmis.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

it was lauched in march 2005. its url is http://www.schulportals.com

How did you decide on a name for your website?

we build comprehensive website (web portal) for schools especially secondary and tertiary institutions, hence we decided to call it 'schoolportals' since it was already taken, we coined 'schulportals'

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

aside from the admision, registration and online result checking with e-payment and e-commerece facilities, our portal also provides specialised sms services in conjuction with the above.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To be the leader in portal deployment for at least 70% of private secondary schools, all FGCs/FGGCs, and 70% of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

success is ambigous and relative. if you mean financial freedom, i devote most of my time in reading, exploring and in information empowerment in major areas of my life and the life/vision of schulportals

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Rapidly.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, we have about 7 sites we manage through schulportals that have over 20,000 students/users accessing them with a 24/7 technical and user support.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

we were called unexpectedly to deploy a portal project within 2wks which would have taken 2mths. we did it and execute with minimal hitches.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Yet to encounter one really, though we have encounter one or two heady and difficult client, but we left a positive mark.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

sms marketing

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

our website is part of our product and services, so any clients dealing with us will neccesary visit and perform one operational service or the other on the web site.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

two and half years. i do not know...
