PetAmore.com Interview

By Interviewer at 10/21/09 11:53

Name of your website?

PetAmore.com

Your name?

Cristina Kane

Your Location (city, etc)

Westbury

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Here at PetAmore.com we strive to provide our readers with useful information on the care, training, and well-being of their pets. Be it a Dog, or Cat, you're sure to find helpful advice, and How-to Guides for a host of animal-related issues like, Dog Breed Guides, Cat Breed Guides, Dog Training, Dog Obedience, Dog Grooming, Cat Grooming, Poisonous Pet Foods, and Veterinary Issues, just to name a few. We will even help you find the perfect Name for your pet, and will keep you up-to-date on the latest Pet and Animal News. Not to mention money saving Coupons to Pet Retailers across the country, and our very own pet care product recommendations!

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Our goal is to help fellow pet owners to achieve a better understanding of their pets, and to reduce the number of animals that wind up in shelters every year. We wanted to encourage people to research the animals before they adopt, or buy a dog or cat to make sure the animal is right for their home and lifestyle!

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

The website was launched in July 2008, and it is our first site.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

We thought long and hard about a name that would describe how we felt about pets. Pet Amore (Pet Love) was a perfect fit.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

We really provide thorough, and accurate information about all the topics on our site. And, our content doesn't stop at just breed specific info, like many of the other sites do. We try and find the latest news, training techniques, and pet concerns, and provide a good source of information for our readers.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Our goal is to keep the site forever, and always keep expanding it. I don't think we will ever run out of topics, or stories to tell.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

At this point, our investment of time and money far outweighs any money we've earned. We created this site out of our passion for animals. Quite frankly the feedback we've had from the shelters and rescue groups is our real measure of success.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

We would add more interactive features to really allow our readers to connect and feel a part of something.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Most definitely. We would hire as necessary. My partner and I have over 30 years combined experience in business, and I'm sure that we could meet any challenges head-on.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Hackers attempted to crash our servers - they didn't succeed but it made us re-evaluate our security, and add more dimensions to it.

What has been your biggest challenge?

I've been my biggest challenge because I'm such a perfectionist. I am constantly pushing myself to do better, do more, work harder.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Classified ads, and organic Search Engine rankings.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

So far it hasn't. We've been very fortunate because we took the time to put together a cohesive business plan before beginning, and I think that extra effort really paid off.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I don't think popularity will be a problem, as we are already achieving an average of 1,000 unique hits daily, after only 2.5 months of operation. I think we will continue for as long as we possibly can.

What is your website address?
