What inspired you to launch your own website?

Having helped over 100 small businesses to promote their websites over the last 6 years it was time from me to get a website of my own up and running.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

June 2007 - http://www.internetmarketingniche.com & http://www.interactivekidz.com. I have since added four more websites to my portfolio.

How did you decide on a product for your website?

Having found myself lost in the desert for 12 hours during a visit to Broken Hill in 2003, I promised myself I wouldn't venture into the Australian outback again without a reliable GPS. My investigations into finding the best GPS for my needs and having an electronics expert as a business partner led me into starting my own GPS website and hence the name GPSNiche.com as it is only about GPS & Navigational Devices.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

GPSNiche.com enables the buyer to compare prices across a whole range of quality USA suppliers of GPS & Navigational Systems, as well as giving them access to worldwide auction listings for new and used GPS devices.

There is access to a number of review sites that will help the GPS novice find the right device to suit their needs and (still to be added)links to sites devoted to the GPS enthusiast.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Like all my sites I plan to keep it for its income potential. However, that doesn't mean that I won't consider selling it at some later stage.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I am naturally a Creator and so I would most certainly outsource a lot more than I do to enable me to take on more projects.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Absolutely. I'm very keen on automating as much of my sites as possible once they're up and running.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Finding reliable drop shippers and wholesalers has often been and continues to be a challenge for my various sites.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Finding the mentors and information I needed at prices that did not run into the thousands when it came to marketing and building my websites. Hence starting my website http://www.internetmarketingniche.com to help others have a less rocky and costly journey.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Pay-per-click advertising is definitely the least time consuming and, so far, the most successful in getting me traffic. Link building and submitting the site to directories is slowly building up the site popularity.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I've had to do a lot of research, especially in regards to the American and UK market, as my websites sell into America, the UK as well as Australia.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

GPS Niche.com has only been up a couple of weeks. I plan to run it as long as it is profitable but clearly there is no point in beating a dead horse. If it doesn't perform to my expectations I will have to either get expert advice on how to turn it around or consider the viability of it in relation to the cost of my time v present and future income from the site. Having said that, I'm well aware that market conditions and the economy play a large role in how successful retail businesses are at any given time and this will certainly need to be added into the equation.

What other interest or areas of expertise do you have and how has it help you with running your websites?

I invest in property and the Share market, both of which has helped me considerably when it comes to doing the research needed for finding niche products and the markets in which to sell them.

I'm also an author of several novels. I believe this has helped to enhance my copy writing skills.

What is your website address?
