Name of your website?White Sands New Mexico - National Monument USA
Your name?
Emerson Kent
Your Location (city, etc)
Alamogordo, NM 88310
When did you start your website and why?
I decided to realize a website about White Sands in 1988 when I first visited the National Monument in New Mexico and fell in love with the Sands. I had to know where all the white sands came from and why it ended up in the middle of a desert.
Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc
It is a "all you need to know about White Sands" site. You will find visitor's information, geological information, as well as the history of the National Monument. There is also a photo gallery (you are invited to upload your own White Sands pics.)
What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?
Sitting at home and doing it rather than BBQing in the Sands and having a blast.
Do you have special features on your website?
Yes, I wrote a visitor's brochure that you can obtain via the site. Alternatively you can order it as audiobook. Both items are also available as download.
What was your biggest mistake?
I didn't study geology.
Who maintains your website and why?
Many helping hands are helping out but I mainly do my updates myself. That way I can always be on top of things.
Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?
Not much, but that wasn't the intention either. This is more a hobby type of thing.
What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?
I love the internet! It's one of the best ideas people ever had, I think.
What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
Whatever helps to spread the word and isn't obnoxious.
What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?
That's a good question. It seems that the automated search engines as much as the manual engines have their own respective limitations. But search engines are a great tool to find your way through the www.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Still searching for the method...
What method has been least successful for promoting your website?
I haven't promoted enough to be able to answer this question.
What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?
I would be most interested if there was a way to convert spam mails so that they turn around, go back to their sender, and blow up the pc of the spammer.
