Your Location (city, etc)
Jersey City NJ
Please give us a short summary of your website?
A message board dedicated to all things New Jersey. Focusing on Jersey City, Weehawken, Bayonne, West New York, Edgewater, and Union City. Find the best restaurants, read local news, and see what is going on with the latest condo projects. Hudson Tea, The Watermark, Port Imperial, 77 Hudson, Crystal Point, Trump Plaza, and more are all covered
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Other messaging boards servicing this area are heavily censored and beholden to the whim of advertisers. They delete comments without warning, and have no terms of service so you know what you have done wrong. I find this unacceptable.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I have launched a few website. I launched my personal home page a few years ago, and a website to support one of my business last year.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted a name that was easy to remember, and that told the purpose of the board.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
As long as you don't do things that a 10 year old knows not to do, you won't have any issue having your comments deleted. And if I do delete, you will be given a reason why.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
As long as I bring a little free speech to any/all of the boards, I'm happy.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
So far, I'm in the hole, but it's a labor of love :-)
Breaking even and stopping tyrannical board admins would make me happy enough
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I'd add a lot more functionality
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Absolutely. I have the resorces to scale as required.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Development has taken longer than I expected, but I want the board to be right.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Promiting the site.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
My sister site, http://thebayonneboard.com is helping with cross promiton. I'm also relying on word of mouth.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I'm used to it by now.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Till I see changed in how other similar sites are run.
What is your website address?
