Name of your website?Himalaya Rescue Dog Squad Nepal (HRDSN)
Your name?
Ingo Schnabel
Your Location (city, etc)
Pokhara
Please give us a short summary of your website?
HRDSN was established in 1989 and is the only private Rescue Organization in Nepal which focusses entirely on search for missing people in the trekking areas of Nepal. HRDSN also performs disaster relief operations all in close contact with Embassies and other aid organizations.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
for fund raising and promotion, to be visible for those who have lost a family member or friend while trekking in remote Nepal, to be contacted in times of emergency and when disaster strikes
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
the website was created by two trekking webmasters from England as a free donation in January 2000 and has not undergone real great structural changes
How did you decide on a name for your website?
because we are registered in Nepal under this name
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
we consider ourselves to be of vital service for the local population as well as for the tourist industry of Nepal
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
after establishing our new headquarters in Pokhara valley our ultimate goal is a flying doctor service for the remote villages in the hills of Nepal and secure the organization for future generations of rescue workers.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
satisfactory....could always be better of course
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
we would create a pension fonds for rescue workers and a study fonds for their kids, we would build the largest solar panel park in Nepal and run the entire Headquarters of the Disaster Relief Unit and the Helicopter port with alternative energy. We would triple the size of our mobile hospital unit and buy heavy machines for stand by in case of Earthquakes etc.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
no problem as our organization is already 19 years old and we have over 50 skilled Nepalese staff and 160 college students who study on our costs for specific tasks in the disaster unit
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
haha...it is always the lack of larger funds of course
What has been your biggest challenge?
overcoming the red tape and corruption in Nepal Government offices and on personal level the search and ultimate rescue of one Australian Trekker named James Scott who still holds our record being found alive after 46 days in snow and ice in 1992 on the Gosainkunda pass in Helambu. The survival of or organization during the 10 years of so called peoples war of the Maoist insurgency....oh dear, big challenges never end here!
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
don't know
