Please give us a short summary of your website?
SeniorFreeBees was started because I have assisted a number of seniors in locating services that they already have paid for with a lifetime of tax payments. For instance no lawyer will ever tell a senior he can get free simple services through a number of sources. Too often situations arise that are covered by a program geared toward this group. This site has been launched to be a starting point and a reference for seniors. I’ll post all free medical care fairs and events that I can find. I have posted discounts available now and am pursuing area merchants to offer more.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
The economy is the worst in the nation in Michigan, couple that with rising heat and gasoline prices and you have formulas for hard choices by seniors this winter. I’m hoping we can help them locate some savings and make it through these tough times.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
October 30, 2007, this is my first site, http://www.seniorfreebees.com
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I've had a couple of marketing casses and knew it was important that it be easily remembered and simple to equate with the site. So SeniorFreeBees does both I hope.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
I couldn't find any similar offerings, that pushed me harder to write it.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I hope to make it self supporting. I would like to make enough ad revenue to cover the cost of the hosting and domain registration.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
My success came when I got my first email thanking me for the site.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would hire people to help locate resources in order to make it larger than just Michigan. I would like to help all seniors.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I would do whatever it took.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
It is an everyday job, I have to devote time to keeping things current, checking my facts and formatting it to the web.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Learning how to negotiate the web hosting service.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I have sent emails to local organizations asking if they will look it over.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It's much harder than I thought it would be and requires quite a bit of time.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I have been working on it for about a month and launched last week. I hope to keep it going indefinitely.
What background do you have to bring you to this subject?
My personal background is one that I think is a perfect match for this task. I have two bachelor degrees, one in business administration the other in psychology/sociology with a concentration in gerontology. I’m a very persistent person when I am working for something I deeply believe in, and this is definitely the case with this effort. I hope I can make a difference in the situation facing Michigan seniors now and in the future. The site again is www.seniorfreebees.com. Thanks for reading and I hope you'll check it out.
