What inspired you to launch your own website?
To reach a larger and more diverse public.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
2002 The same website but with usual updates
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The cabin has been in the family since 1950
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
We try to project a more friendly (not strictly commercial)atmosphere. Please note the about us section on our web page.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Keep it for income and personal use.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I deem that is successful because some of the same people come back year after year and everyone seems to love the place. We enjoy meeting new people from all walks of life, therefore it is well worth it. Yearly we show a profit.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Add more cabins.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Definitely YES.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Costs of well repair. More people in the cabin than the maximum capacity, not receiving payment for extra people, carelessness of some of the younger crowd resulting in damaged items.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Trying to give comfort to guests who had a daughter in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Listng it on various websites and guests recommendations.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
My expectations have been met to a certain degree but I would like to see more business.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site has been active for 6 years and we will continue until physically we are no longer able to rent the cabin.
Do you enjoy doing this
Unequivocally yes
