Global Mauritian Interview

Name of your website?

Global Mauritian

Your name?

Anne Robert

Your Location (city, etc)

Port Louis

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Global Mauritian provides opinion papers on the Mauritian economy, society and politics. Guests are invited to become authors and post their own papers, or participate in the discussion through commentaries.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Leaving Mauritius for Montreal was a painful decision. Writing these columns maintains my Mauritian spirit alive.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Global Mauritian is my first website.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

The name had to include Mauritian or Mauritius. I wanted to invite people from all over the world to participate, so I thought of global. Global Mauritian was just the perfect name.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

I designed the site a such a way that people can become authors and contribute freely to the discussion.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My goal is to invite all Mauritian free thinkers to participate in cyber-democracy.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

So far, this site pumps cash and time. But I couldn't care less. It is worth it.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would add more commentaries, more news and multimedia content.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

No

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

At first, I struggled with the concept. Then, I had to understand the basics of web design and technology before deciding on the site's final shape and flavour.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Leaving Mauritius, but that has nothing to do with the site!

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I don't know. I have jsut got to the promotion stage.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Six month so far. Indefinitely if possible.

What is your website address?

Global Mauritian

I welcome Anne's initiative. It is imperative to have a platfform where views of Mauritians at home and in the various diasporas can be shared. Un grand bravo
