Please give us a short summary of your website?
Handmade and Hawaii-inspired soaps and bath products. Soaps are made using the "Oven Hot Process" method and made in small batches to ensure quality.
What inspired you to launch your company?
I moved away from Hawaii over 20 years ago and longed for the scents of fragrant flowers grown in Hawaii. So I started making my own soaps and scenting with fragrances of the flowers I missed. I also found that department type bars were drying to my skin and needed a more moisturizing bar of soap. Initially, this was just a hobby, but when corporate downsizing caused me to lose my job as an process engineer, I decided to do this as a business.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
In 2002. The name East Coast Tropics is now a registered trademark with the US Patent and Trademark office since June 2006.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Wanted a name to reflect Hawaii on the east coast where I now reside.
What type of products do you offer?
Handmade soaps, perfumes sprays, perfume sachets, Lauhala gift baskets, Plumeria Hair Clips, Kukui Nut wristlets, Candy Lei Tubings, Hawaiian Gift bags & boxes.
What type of oils do you use in your soaps?
I use Olive, Macadamia nut and coconut oils. I also use ingredients indigenous to the islands, like Kukui Nut oil, as well as fragrances that resemble natural beauties, like Awapuhi (Hawaiian White Ginger), Plumeria, Pikake and Tuberose flowers.
I travel to Hawaii every year to visit with family. I also meet with all my suppliers to purchase supplies and get ideas for new products to offer my customers. My customers are current and former Hawaii residents, and the Hawaiian-at-heart.
