What inspired you to launch your own website?
Most home buyers utilize the internet to search for homes.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I decided to try a website about a year ago...it was www.marielally.com.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Easy, I used my own name...in real estate, branding your name is very important!
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
I utilize my website as a tool to direct potential buyers and sellers to another search site - www.homesdatabase.com/marielally - which enables a potential buyer to search for homes in an environment which is branded with my name... This search site tracks potential buyers, the homes they view as well as my own listing traffic.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To obtain homebuyer clients.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I have made new contacts and clients.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would have a website that was professionally designed rather than home-made!
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Absolutely!
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
No cost surprises, however, since I do everything myself, mainly marketing myself and my properties, it is very time consuming.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The website itself
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Craigslist has been wonderful for driving traffic to my site - it is free and targets buyers, sellers & renters in my localized area.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Time consuming and I just lack the skills to build a professional website...additionally, I lack the funds to have a professional website built for me.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
1 year already... indefinitely, as long as I am a realtor.
