What inspired you to launch your own website?
Domain name searches (and registration) are relatively often proposed, but no website was proposing online trademark searches in several countries. We decided to propose this type of search, to be used jointly with domain name searches or independently.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Your website was launched in October 2007. We obtained our first customer two days thereafter.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Knowing that our website is focusing on european trademarks, we decided to use the names EUR and MARK; we added the letter I as a reference to the Internet.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
There exists no other website providing an identical trademark search, for free, across all the european trademark registers. This unique opportunity to check if your trademark or if your name has already been registered by others or by competitors allow us to provide our clients with a technical and legal advantage compared to other online trademark registration websites.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
our goal is to develop this website and to keep it for income.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Up to date, we are balancing your investment of money.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
We would add additional features, additional databases and provide trademark searches for free in some registers
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes, as we are on "old" company from the brick and mortar world; this website is only an extension of our existing business, where the requests from "normal" customers are more important than through our website
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
One of the main difficulties was to combine the various databases and to link then to our website and to the global structure of our website. But it is now fully functional and clients see no differences between the various databases we use to provide them with reliable information
What has been your biggest challenge?
To develop our database of products and services. Our website allows to correctly determine your class of product(s) or service(s), i.e. to determine how to classify your activities according to the legal requirements and classifications used by the trademark offices over the world. We have developed a specific database including all activities and created links to the "legal" equivalent products and services.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Proposing it to marketing and advertising agencies
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
The english-speaking public was not as interested as the French or German public.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
We will run this website for at least ten years
