what is the objective of your website?
aims to connect business and social users into one database. it also aims at making the internet more useful for users because they will be able to read an article on an area that they are interested in and in addition request for any service that they may so require thus be able to do business online. same applies for students and the other users everyone can post information onto the website.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
well, what made me launch this website was the huge developmental gap between Nairobi and other towns. also because of the fact that users could not get information of alternative investments other than about the stocks. to add on that the fact that there are only 1.5million internet users in Kenya was something to think about. so by making the internet more useful then well we might be able to bridge the info gap and develop the whole country at the same time. i also love to build other peoples businesses but i have never had a platform. i hope that this website will achieve that
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
this is actually my first website to launch. i have consulted on other websites but have never designed my own.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
the name Twaweza Kenya, which means we can Kenya, aims to envision the desire for Kenyans to grow and develop, also my desire to see a Kenya achieving its developmental goals. the name is just that aspiration in kiswahili.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
this is a vision being launched. otherwise the difference of this website lies in the off line support i intend to give my clients from Kenya and abroad. basically you shall read the information on the website and then respond by asking for more information. i shall deliver that information online and also visit you office and give you the support that you need to achieve you targeted sales or whatever else. I aim at developing relationships that will grow peoples hopes and aspirations.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
my eventual goal of the website? well to connect people to the information and services they require and then help them achieve the said goals by providing all other resources they may require. eventually if new towns can be developed then i shall be more than happy to be a part of that
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
well i have just started, looks like a lot of sacrifice is needed to achieve the goal and off course that needs a mentality of not money first.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
include the following: all the features that will attract people to the website email,chat,discussion forum etc. then get them to post information about what they do or sell then allow them to interact with others by purchasing whatever services they need finally visit every other town in Kenya and just do the same
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
yes, if my site got big very quickly i will be able to keep up with the demand by automating most of the services. then allowing users interact with each other more without my involvement then since i have a database of c.v employ others who will have the same vision.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
well the most unexpected headaches i have had to deal with is modifying the website. more so, the amount of work i need to do to market the site and the vision. well its hard to convince business people that online business really works.
What has been your biggest challenge?
my biggest challenge is the number of internet users in Kenya. secondly is getting hits to the website, thirdly is being able to make the website have the features i want to have. finally is time
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
everything on earth that is possible from filling questionnaires like this, to free classifieds to being good to people, just everything is so far successful.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
well manipulation of content has really differed with my expectations also the number of email responses.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
just one week and i intend to keep it up for the rest of my life just to build and add whatever else that is not it currently.
