Teacher-in-Japan Interview

By Interviewer at 01/23/09 08:48

Name of your website?

Teacher-in-Japan

Your name?

Anthony Teixeira

Your Location (city, etc)

Hiratsuka

Please give us a short summary of your website?

We're a teacher/student matching website. Our teachers can teach any language. We aim to offer our teachers the best tools to find students quickly.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I used to use such teacher/student systems but was a little frustrated because I found they left too little room for expression. So I developed my own system with the possibility to upload contents (like lessons) and link videos, so that teachers can show what they're made of!

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I started creating websites a few years ago. The topics were mainly entertainment. It was much of a geek hobby to be quite honest.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Making such a website running properly requires a lot of investment, whether we're talking about time or money. However, growing success brings me a strong motivation and determination. Although I'm not getting rich with my website, I do enjoy my role a lot.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

I'm fully devoted to this website. I think I can keep up with the demand fairly well. Time and patience are the key! It is very important to me to remain close to my visitors. If you take the human side, it is very rewarding.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Getting my first teachers! Once you have them, people start talking about you and it makes things easier. But getting first teachers to my website was much of a challenge. It took me a lot of time and efforts, but I'm pretty satisfied with the results now.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

As I said, the beginning was tough. It takes a lot of time to make your website run comfortably. It is very important to keep motivation in these moments. You spend time, and a certain amount of money on your website with no guarantee about results but I'm basically happy with how things have been working lately.

How long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

As things are, I'm reasonably happy with traffic numbers. There are a few developments to come and I believe my website will still grow a little bit. It's always hard to say how long a website can keep running but things should be safe for, let's say, the next 5 years.

What is your website address?
