Name of your website?EZ-Metrix code counting utility
Your name?
James T. Heires, PMP
Your Location (city, etc)
Cedar Rapids
What inspired you to launch your own website?
There is a lack of available tools to quantify the size of software from multiple programming languages.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
1999 - it was just a static brochure at that time. EZ-Metrix came into being in 2004.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It's somewhat self-descriptive of the functionality for the tool. Easy Metrics.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
It's web based, and offers comparison metrics, plus it works on many different programming languages (more than 75!)
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
EZ-Metrix is for sale now, and will go through some additional enhancements in the future.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Lots more time and money put in, at the moment, than what is coming out, but I have good feelings about the value this product brings to the marketplace.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I wouldn't, since I want this product to be self-funded (bootstrapping).
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes, for the moment, as this product has been designed to scale easily. Support and other non-technical elements of the product offering, however, would not scale so easily.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Contract labor was slow and had difficulty understanding the need for the product. This translated into a few false starts and unexpected issues.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting the latest version (4.0) completed and out the door.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Link exchanges with companies in similar, but non-competing areas.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Not really. Automation helps me do more with less time, in this area.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Since 1999 the site has been up, in some shape or form. It will continue to be available as long as it makes business sense to do so.
Why should someone purchase EZ-Metrix?
It's faster, supports more languages, provides more metrics and is easier to use than the competing products. If your software business is interested in making money, instead of playing around building your own "science project" tools, just buy EZ-Metrix and get started right away collecting metrics - TIME IS MONEY, after all.
