Please give us a short summary of your website?
ProjectVisionary.Com Classifieds was designed to offer Southern Indiana Communities a place to buy, sell and promote their goods and services. We offer live, online assistance during regular business hours. Our parent company offers custom, web based, software solutions and business promotion services.
What is the inspiration behind ProjectVisionary.Com Classifieds?
As a marketing company, we would often find start up businesses that did not have the funding to get the word out about their goods and services. The free classified ads offers such a venue. By adding online support and a forum, our community can discuss and inquire about the site in real time.
What makes ProjectVisionary.Com different from other local classified ads?
We have taken a twofold approach. The first is a focus on the users experience. We make the site easy to use with simplistic forms and means of communication. I.E. Forms contain minimum required information and the buyer contacts the seller via email. Second, we are there, live during business hours to engage the buyer or seller in a chat session to help them along.
What up with the name ProjectVisionary.com?
A visionary is considered an impractical dreamer; having vision or foresight; imaginary or illusory; prophetic or revelatory; idealistic or utopian, by definition. And as project managers by trade and training, we took a defined approach to the vision. "would it not be great to build a site where everyone came to know the offerings of others for free, and if needed, secured those needs.
With so many other classified ad sites, why bother?
Well the sort answer is; why not. Every classified ad site promotes something other tan the ads it posts. In our case, it is new business venture that needs to get their name out to a community. Did I mention that the ads are free? Also, when the economy is tough, people will sometimes need to part with items to make ends meet. Why offer a portion of that to someone that has no real interest in you or your situation. Did I mention we offer live, online support to help our visitors?
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
As visionaries, our goals are lofty. But as project managers and marketing professionals, we deal with realities. We would like to see the communities we serve locate the best available good, service, item, collectible, trinket or whatever for the best available price. We are champions of the underdog, our vision is to see them succeed.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
With a launch of May 1 2009. We have yet to see a return on the investment. But as idealists, we did not take this into consideration. Our measure of success is in satisfied users. The more we have the better we did.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
One thing we would like to do is pay our visitors for placing ads. Did I mention the part about being unrealistic dreamers in the definition? Seriously, we do plan to offer some very cool incentives to our registered base. Right now we are sorting out the details.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
We can handle it. I would appreciate being challenged like this.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Nothing unexpected really. Headaches come in many different forms though. There just always seems to be a tweak or adjustment to the model that needs to be made.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Trying not to appears as another "me too" classified ad site. We have a greater sense of community. Hoosier pride abounds.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
A local target market does have its advantages. We have been passing out creative business cards with our information on it. We have a few marketing plans that we will deploy soon. However I don't want to ruin and surprises that may transpire soon.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Funny thing is, we must have had fairly low expectations for 'visionaries'. The site is actually exceeded our expectations. We have just begun. Here it is the 20th of May and we launched exactly 20 days ago. We seeing a good bit of traffic despite the fact that we have not really started the promotions yet.
How long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
As visionaries, we have not allowed such thinking to even enter our minds. We still believe in that vision of World Peace thing too by the way.
Whats next for ProjectVisionary.com?
Good question! We have been cooking up an e-learning initiative. Goods and services are great things to share and promote, but we also envision the perpetuation of information and knowledge. We promise to check back in when this goes live.
