The Star Ruby Shop offers the largest online stock in Star Rubies, Star Sapphires, Rubies, Sapphires, Emeralds, Trapiche Rubies and Trapiche Sapphires. Customers can purchase gemstones online and get them delivered at their doorstep.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
We noticed that even though there are tens of thousands of gemstone and jewelry related websites, there is none which specializes in high-quality premium gemstones such as star rubies and star sapphires. Hence this is the area we are targetting.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
StarRuby.in was our first website which was launched somewhere in the start of 2007.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Well, the name was very simple. Since we wanted to specialize in star rubies, hence nothing better than starruby.in
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
What makes us different is that there is no other website on the internet that specializes in star rubies and other similar premium gemstones.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To keep it and grow it.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I have got a good response to the specialization.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would make sure that I have a translation of my site in various languages. Also multiple payment options.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I would't be able to keep up with the gemstone photography part!
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Nothing much except hacking attempts.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge has been to respond to the customer's emails and inquiries in time (especially the ones asking for pictures/videos of the gemstones)
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Google Adwords has been best
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I plan not only to run the site for as long as possible, I also intend to grow it every year.
