My girl friend lives in Ghana, Accra and told me that a visa is about 250.00 dollars and wanted me to send it to here but after reading things about Ghana I believe that is too high and that it is much cheaper. How can I find out how much it is to get a visa from Ghana

Since the 1st January 2008, the fee for ALL US visa applications (irrespective of country of origin) is $131 for non-immigrant visas. and $355 for an immigrant visa. An immigrant visa is required if your girlfriend wants to live or work in the United States.
If only only visiting the US, your girlfriend will be expected to provide a legitimate reason for traveling, be able to prove that the expense of the trip is affordable for her and in-line with her own economic circumstances. She will also be asked to show her financial, social and family ties to Ghana (proof of a secure job, financial holdings, birth certificates of children etc). These are asked for in order to ensure that she will only visit the US for a temporary period and will definitely return to Ghana.
Have you ever met your girlfriend in person before? If not please be aware of a prevalent visa scam currently operating in Ghana whereby US citizens make a connection with someone over the internet who claims to live in Ghana and then professes friendship or love in a very short period of time.
Once this connection is made they typically asks the U.S. citizen to send money for living expenses, travel expenses, or "visa costs". Sometimes, they tell the US citizen that a close family member has suffered an "accident" and is in need of immediate monetary assistance to cover medical bills.
The anonymity of the Internet means that the U.S. citizen cannot be sure of the real name, age, marital status, nationality, or even gender of the correspondent. In the majority of cases reported to the embassy, the correspondent turns out to be a fictitious persona created only to lure the U.S. citizen into sending money. Several Americans have reported losing thousands of dollars through such scams.
If you wish you may arrange to prepay for a plane ticket to America directly with the carrier rather than wiring money to the traveler. If the correspondent provides an image of a purported U.S. visa as proof of intention to travel, you may contact the US Embassy in Accra at accrafpm@state.gov to check the validity of the visa.
For more information on this scam read the official United States Embassy website
your girlfriend is a fake ...you probably met her through lavalife or some other "love"agency...most likely you met her only on the internet but never in life...how about you insisting that you will pay for the expenses in USA or where ever you live(thay is if you still believe that she is genuine) and that you will pay for visa in the USA in her behalf. My gues is that she will find half a doesn reasons why you should send her money rather than prepaying her expenses etc. yourself...Ask her also for her land adress and telephone number -neither you will ever receive. It is like this, she moved to Ghana with her mother, her father was killed in war somewhere in Africa, she attends church regularly and she believes that her Lord has sent you to her as a reward for her devotion to faith(never mind that you are mostlikely 20 or more years her senior, she is convinced that God has arranged this for her and she loves you because you are the greatest man she has ever met ,etc.etc....
Good luck..if you believe one word of hers...you will need plenty of it...
