Please give us a short summary of your website?
I am medical transcriptionist working from home. I've been into this career for the past ten years. Before adopting this career, I had several doubts about this industry and career. On my site, I'm try to clear all those doubts for the benefits of new aspirants into this career. Apart from discussion about MT career, I'm trying to share knowledege on any subject/topic I find interesting, no limitations.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Internet is a vast source of information/knowledge. It's my wish that if at all I'm not there on the earth after a few years, whatever carving I leave here should enlighten/be useful for at least a few so that I would be remembered for years to come.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
June 2, 2007. The same "MT Herald Dot Com."
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Basically being a medical transcriptionist, MT stands for medical transcription. Herald stands for official messenger.
Together it is "medical transcription herald" and further shortening for easy memorizing it has become "MT Herald."
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
I could find only rare blogs about medical transcription, hence it's different.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
It's my asset that I leave for my heirs at law.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I spend only a meagre amount for hosting but I spend whole of my freetime on it and it's now become a hobby now to write. So whatever success comes of it, purely contributes to my dedication and determination.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I am basically a zero on SEO, website designing etc. I have applied whatever I've learnt from the internet. If the website achieves the milestone of success, I will use the resources educating the beginners all these. If it's a failure, I will use the resources to achieve these aspects.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Why not? Where there is a will, there is surely a way?
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Nothing so far.
What has been your biggest challenge?
I have been messing up with a lot of website hosting tools and my site crashed multiple times because of that. I started with Sitebuilder but found it is just for kids, tried Frontpage but not contended with it and many more like that. At last ended up with Wordpress and found it perfect to suit my taste, it has been striving for survival for about 60 days.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Nothing but very good, human friendly, knowledgeable content; everything else got done automatically by word-of-mouth promotion and search engines.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
No hard and fast expectations so far, everything going on a trial and error basis, I gain knowledge day by day. Only if you are a master in the subject, you ought to have more expectations. If you're a student, your only expectation would be to depict an excellent performance on the subject.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
So far it's 93 days from the date of registration. No problem running it lifetime.
