What inspired you to launch your own website?
InterspaceNews is committed to telling the story of humankinds march into space. 1,000 years from now nobody will remember who Paris Hilton was nor will they remember 90% of what we consider to be "big news" today. However, you can rest assured, that they will remember that we were the first generation to venture into space.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
InterspaceNews is my first web site. It has been around in one format or another for the better part of the last 17 years. It has existed in it's current format since January 2008.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
InterspaceNews was named by combining the words "internet" and "space" to form one word Interspace that we feel describes what the site is all about - Internet Space News
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
InterspaceNews differs from other similar sites in several ways. We have a different approach towards disseminating news. Most space news sites attempt to become the next New York Times or CNN. InterspaceNews does not want to be a newspaper or TV station. We want to make use of the unique abilities provided by the internet to create a new type of news service that combines the best of these worlds. We make extensive use of unique photos, videos, live feeds and soon blogs to tell a story as it is unfolding. Written reports are then generated, once all the facts are available, that clarify and define the story in ways other sites simply cannot.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
InterspaceNews will one day read like an on-line history of our march into space. A window looking back and one of the most exciting adventures humans have ever atempted.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
When constructing any sort of business you must be prepared to make sacrifices in order to achieve your goals. I have a strong background in business and finance and I understand that once you begin a new business it will suck you dry for the first several years. However, if you persevere, the business will slowly begin to pay you back one day arriving at the point where it will support and provide for you.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
If I were given an unlimited budget I would invest heavily in new technology and innovation. InterspaceNews is constantly striving to understand the needs and wants of it's visitors. As a result we are constantly searching for new and innovative concepts to make the on-line experience one that our visitors will want to enjoy again and again. An Unlimited budget would only make this easier
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
At InterspaceNews we are constantly striving to keep ahead of the curve in that area. We have many growth plans already in place and one of these includes the possibility of explosive growth. Should this ever happen (please God!!!!) I believe that we are prepared for it and can withstand the storm
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
At this point we have not experienced any unforeseen coast headaches.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Our biggest challenge has been sustaining growth without breaking the bank. At times you need things that you can not afford but if you don't invest you will not grow. It's a catch 22 that can be maddening at times.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Nothing can replace a good on line marketer. Our old marketer retired and we need a new one. If any are out there looking for new clients drop us an e-mail!!!!!
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
When I first started the site I thought that people would simply find me on their own and then start spending money. I have since learned that running a site is like running any business - it takes a lot of hard work and commitment
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
InterspaceNews has existed in one format or another for around 17 years but it has existed in it's current incarnation since January 2008 - I strongly believe in this and will never stop.
