When did you start your website and why?
We only started our website 2-3 months ago, as a service it help people locate and find their missing items, inparticular pets, as we understand how stressful this can be, and wanted to offer a service to help people.
Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc
We have made a available a free listing service for people who find missing items, here again inparticular pets, so they can be found by their owners. As people do come across stray pets and need a way of contacting there owners should they not have indentification tags on them.
What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?
Building the site was straight forward, the hard work was marketing the site, not only to encourage people to make use of our service, but to make them aware that it was there. Also building traffic so the found pets etc, could be relocated to there rightful owners. So a lot of background work has gone into listing in directories, and linking to good websites such as this one.
What has been the easist part of operating your website?
Interms of maintaining the site, and having the ability in putting up peoples information pretty quickly, as the sooner it is listed hopefully the quicker we can get people back intouch with their pets.
What was your biggest mistake?
Not doing it sooner.
Who maintains your website and why?
I maintain the site daily Monday to Sunday, so I am available to react asap to peoples needs. I try to add peoples information soon after the details hit my e-mail inbox.
Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?
It's still early days as we build the business, the key is that it helps our targetted customers.
What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?
Well it's only fair that I first say that my background prior to entering the online media marketplace, is that I was a media planner buyer (and still am), purchasing media on Tv,press,posters @ radio. Research shows us that the internet growing daily, with 27% of media consumption now web based, although currently only 11% of ads are placed on the internet, so there is plenty of scope for growth. What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
From my short knowledge of the online marketplace "keywords" are crucial to developing your online business. There is a lot of information on the net, but you need to tread carefully.
What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?
I have had no problems with search engines and have been pleased to find the major players Google,Yahoo and MSN have listed my website pretty quickly. Thats not forgetting the other 5-10% of search engines out there. It's important not to ignore them.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I have to say I have used a few methods, 1,banner advertising which you can produce free of charge on the internet. I have used these for banner exchanges, and entered them on my main website (if I am allowed to mention it) www.gbontheweb.co.uk 2,Google adsense has produced good results. 3, Directory submissions has also been very useful.
What method has been least successful for promoting your website?
Although I have used banner exchanges, I have not seen a good click through incomparison with promoting the website with banners on my main website as mentioned earlier.
What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?
Less confusion from the so called gura's, and an easier path to online knowledge, so newcomers can make their websites a real success.
