Your name?
Amilda Betancourt
Your Location (city, etc)
Santo Domingo
Please give us a short summary of your website?
My husband works for a multinational corporation and thus we were relocated to the Dominican Republic 14 years ago with 3 children that have turned to 4, and as expatriates ourselves we understand the unique needs of the international employee and the family. We have tailored our services to be of special use during the first few months of arrival and know them to be an invaluable option when starting your foreign assignment. We know almost everything there is to DR, and what we don’t know, we will find out.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Newly arrived residents need to settle into their new environment quickly and smoothly. A stress free introduction with the immediate problems of housing and/or schooling solved allows you to function well and adjust to life Caribbean style.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is my first one, just yesterday.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I work with expatriates and I work in DR.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
The level of understanding the needs of the expatriates, being expatriates ourselves.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To help as much people relocating to dr as possible with my website, by answering some questions before they come to stay.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I don't really understand this question, sorry.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would add a script that would create the best custome relocation and real estate package for my customers by asking and answering some questions on a form.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Absolutely
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
None yet.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting to know the way the Dominican Republic's justice, political and social systems work.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Word of mouth.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
not much really. I have it mostly for pre-information purposes.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
It's only been one day today, so I guess we'll see, but running it is not too expensive, so I think it will be up there for quite a long time.
Do you need this business for survival?
Not at all, my husband runs the Dominican branch of one of the biggest multinational companies in the world.
What is your website address?
Expat Dominican Republic
